USB Toys

Computer USB Toys are fun cool gadgets to play with. The selling point is that they use the electrical power from the USB ports of computers, hence you can dispense with the need for batteries . Let me give a short introduction to USB Toys. Do you know that there are many forms of USB Toys? For example, a USB Toy can be a simple desktop toy and just be used at the home computer since that is where many USB ports can be found. Most USB toys are really just for fun to add some colouring to a boring job. Or maybe sometimes you get bored toying with your computer at home and you buy a USB Toy to brighten up your day. If you want to see an example of a USB toy, why don’t you check out this USB Office Toy on my amazing USB toy blog.

What does USB stand for?

Well, in the above paragraph, I have talked about some USB toys but I have yet to tell you what USB stands for . USB stands for ‘Universal Serial Bus’ and has been touted as the solution for a computer interface that can work universally. The USB Port boasts cross-platform compatibility for Macintosh, Linux and UNIX, and all versions of Windows since Windows 98SE. The USB connector ports are found on every computing accessory built in the past few years. The USB specification provides a 5V (volts) supply on a single wire to USB devices to draw power.

So why use the USB port for Toys?

The USB connector was originally made to replace the serial and parallel ports on computers. If you can remember, the parallel ports were commonly used to connect printers in the past, while the serial ports were used to connect computer mouse. With the invention of the USB Port, it was hoped that all computer devices would be able to connect to the PC using just one type of port on the computer. Soon, computer devices such as printers and mice and even the keyboard were connected via USB. The use of USB ports to power toys was never intended to happen.

Since USB Toys make use of power from the USB port and since they are for use at the computer desk , they are of a very small size and thus usually very cheap. USB Toys can serve as a very good form of entertainment , being fun and cheap.

The End

Well, I hoped you enjoyed this short article which serves as a short introduction to USB Toys. I am sure that they will be here to stay, unless a newer computer port is invented but so far I have not heard of such news. Just recently, some news on the USB 3.0 standard was heard. Currently the standard is USB 2.0. If you bookmark the link to my Cool USB Toys blog, you will be able to get first hand news on this new technology.
