retrofit lighting Is Your Untapped Source of Eternal lighting

News and Society No Comments »

According to experts, energy efficient retrofit lighting is one of the biggest untapped sources of energy. They say that going the energy efficient way is as significant as discovering a new inexhaustible source of energy to tap into, rather than to merely conserve.

This point reemphasizes the amount of savings the country can make by undertaking large scale retrofit lighting projects. New buildings must be built in a smarter way to take advantage of energy efficient lighting applications and existing buildings must be retrofitted. If all the buildings in United States were to use retrofit lighting it is possible to make a saving of almost $33 billion in a single year. That is as significant as generating power worth $33 billion in a year.

The huge potential of energy efficiency is ignored in the pursuit of alternate energy sources. The truth is that energy efficiency through retrofitting is not given due importance as a source of energy and remains largely untapped. But the efficiency that can be brought about by means like retrofit lighting has astounding potential to reduce dependence on electricity.

The concept is very simple – waste less energy than you normally would during the course of the day. If you can consume less energy to get the same heat for your shower, less energy to get the same amount of illumination for your home and office and less energy to run your machines at the same speed, energy efficiency savings is not difficult to achieve. Retrofit lighting is one of the easiest, least expensive and least destructive means of creating more energy for future use by saving it, rather than drilling newer and expensive power plants. The idea is to reduce demand through efficiency rather than to increase supply by spending more resources.

You can conserve energy by turning down the heat and putting on a sweater to fight the cold. There are several other behavioral changes that you can bring about to save energy. But that is conservation, not efficiency. Energy efficiency is made a reality through techniques such as retrofit lighting. The biggest advantage of adopting this approach is that we don’t have to sacrifice comfort to conserve. While doing less with using less is an admirable approach to conserving energy, isn’t it a lot better to do the same or even more with less energy? In short, by retrofitting, you can have it all, it is almost as though you have access to a new source of energy.

Obama calls efficiency “the cheapest, cleanest, fastest energy source.” Through retrofit lighting, you can save at least 75% in energy bills.

The US Department of Energy predicts a 30% increase in power demand by the year 2030. The utilities that supply power are aware that the cheapest way of providing more power is by spending on energy efficiency methods rather than drilling a new plant. Energy efficiency has even been termed the fifth fuel, by retrofitting homes and buildings, each person is directly tapping into this fifth fuel while saving on energy costs at the same time.

Surely Old People Shouldnt Be Banned From Motorways?

News and Society No Comments »

Some older people have been thrown into the mix when it comes to driving as many people want them to be banned. I do not think that this is a bad idea providing that they are tested before hand because it is pretty harsh for someone to just take a license from an old person when they could be more than capable of driving.

Could this be where banning elderly from motorway driving occur, they could still drive, just not on the most dangerous rifes. If this does eventually happen the best thing to do would still be a test because it isn’t fair on the good drivers not to be allowed on the roads. Is it fair to do this, what if an elderly person drives up to see their family once a week or needs to get to the airport and doesn’t way to pay extortionate taxi prices. This is not fair at all.

On the other hand it could cut back accidents a lot because there do seem to be more and more accidents happening that are caused by old people not knowing what they are doing. To be fair there is a point that the drivers have, it isnt safe for old people to be driving slow on a motorway, not safe at all. This doesnt seem to be fair to both parties, one because the older people are being abused for it and the other because the older people are in the way.

Another issue is that with banning old people from driving you are going to see a lot less Bad Credit Car Leasing and this isn’t a great thing because it will shut down a lot of businesses. Of course it will increase road safety.

Cheap Lease Cars and general Audi Leasing is most likely the best option to take for an elderly person, do you think it is best for them not to drive, I think we should give them a chance.

PGMA wishes kinder broadcast media for rest of her term

“I hope you will not begrudge me for wishing that the broadcast media will be kinder to me during the rest of my term as president,” President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said in her keynote address at the 35th Top Level Management Conference of the Kapisanan nga mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, recently.

The President said that although certain individual broadcast institutions and personalities have been very much against her, she acknowledged that as an organization, the KBP has been very supportive.

President Arroyo congratulated the KBP for its adherence to professional standards, thus playing a role in the country’s development.

“KBP as an organization is the voice of moderation, reason and professionalism. Years ago you developed a code of standards and business practices. That is a good start for a self-regulating industry,” President Arroyo said.

The President said media can also do so much to guarantee greater accountability and transparency, and you can also do so much to make politics less destructive.

The President added that although she does not expect the media to part of a government propaganda machine, she and certainly the people expect the media to deliver truthful stories based on facts, as that is the guiding principle of the self-regulation as an industry.

Try To Find Individuals Free Of Charge

News and Society No Comments »

How do you find people for free? Try to avoid hiring an expensive investigator by doing your own investigation. Here are some ways to help you get started.

People are creatures of habit. Still when they are eager to give up their names, and transport far away, they, rarely, are prepared to modify who they are. A bowler will still want to bowl. If you assumed which town he may have moved to, you can call up bowling alleys there to get a hold of information on new league members. If I transferred and altered my name, you may perhaps find me somewhere people meet to take part in chess. Going by just their habits can help us predict their behavior and location.

Do not take it the wrong way when a person is hard to look for because you believe they are hiding. At least, they aren’t trying very hard. Maybe they have left town and keep their phone number unlisted, but they possibly haven’t changed their given name. How do you find them quickly? Here are various techniques.

Look for People For Free With Skip Tracing Techniques

“Skip tracing” is a technique used to locate individuals who either “skipped” town or disappeared. With the internet today, the concepts are easy to use, however the principles stay the same.

For this, all you need is addresses to send letter and phone numbers to give that individual a call. As you mail a letter, you will have to pay a fee for “address correction.” The post office will return a card to you with any forwarding address they have on file for the matter.

When someone answers the phone with the number you called, you would want to ask for the person. If they have moved, you want to get any information you can from the person on the line. Use basic phone pretexts for this.

Try to Find People With Telephone Pretexts

These are valuable stories. They can be as simple as “Hi, my name is Melissa. I’m an old pal of Melissa’s. Do you have an idea about where to find them?” Be prepared, of course for a question or two, like. “Where do you know them from?”

More complicated pretexts might involve a persuasion like, “I have a rebate check for $50 on a car stereo system here that they never claimed. Do you have their address, so I can just drop it in the mail today?” If they reject or say they don’t know where they are, give out your number and request that if they may perhaps hand it to the subject if they talk to them.

While on the phone, try and get the info needed that can help in your quest to find the person. If they don’t want to give you the subject’s address or number, tell them the city that the subject may have transfer to. They may be willing to tell you who can help you find the subject, and you can give them call. Using the phone is the simply and quickest ways to search for people free of charge.

If that fails, you can rely on the power of the internet since there are alot of people search sites on there. Most of these site require an upfront fee which can be small or large. However, peoplesfreesearch.ws is a free of charge people-search engine you can use at no cost to you. It basically provides the same information that other costly people-search websites offer, prehaps even more and it does no cost a penny to make use of it. All you have to do is type the individual’s name and the code that is display underneath and it will give you the results arrange by relevant.

US Arrest: A Progress In Protection Of Filipino Children And Countering Human Trafficking

News and Society No Comments »

The news which narrated how a 64-year-old American citizen was arrested and arraigned in the second week of October, 2009 in Hollywood, Florida, for allegedly coming to the Philippines in 2007 and 2008 to engage in illicit sex with two Filipino girls, should give a strong message that the Philippine government will hunt the culprits no matter where they are.

The excellent international cooperation between Philippine and US law enforcement agencies made possible this arrest and should serve as a warning.

A report from the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida identified the offender as Donald Mathias, a native of Florida. He is facing charges of child abuse. The charges contained in the complaint carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

According to the affidavit filed in support of the complaint, Mathias arranged with the mother of two minor female children in the Philippines to fly to that country in April 2007 and December 2007 to engage in sexual conduct with the minors, and then did so.

Mathias also arranged to travel to the Philippines in December 2008 to again engage in sexual conduct with the minors. Philippine authorities, however, received information about the arrangements and rescued the children before they met Mathias.

In an interview with the Women and Children focal person at the Tacloban City Social Welfare and Development Office, she confirmed about the arraignment saying that it was Fiscal Liza Miscala of the local Family Court who was emailed by her counterpart in the US about the arraignment.

Philippine authorities arrested the victims’ mother in Tacloban City in December while she and all three of her daughters, aged 9 to 14, were on their way to meet Mathias.

The two elder sisters told police that Mathias previously abused them and they were on their way to meet him again.

The victims’ mother, whose name is being withheld for obvious reasons, was charged with child abuse and trafficking of persons. She is now being imprisoned and prosecuted in Tacloban City. When reached and told about this news, the mother refused to be interviewed saying she would rather keep quiet.

The three girls are now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Haven for Women and Girls in Leyte.

Ms. Bastes said that the arrest of Mathias and the girls’ mother resulted from a tip from a concerned citizen who, with the assistance of the non-government PLAN Philippines, disclosed the case to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The Social Worker said that the girls and their mother are not really from Tacloban but from Sogod, Southern Leyte. They were arrested in Tacloban, though.

The authorities then coordinated with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Unit at the US embassy in Manila in pursuing the case against Mathias.

Ms. Bastes intimated that the children and a social worker are scheduled to go to Florida to testify against the suspect.

Philippine Celebration Of World Day For AV Heritage Concentrates On Saving Fading Heritage

News and Society No Comments »

UNESCO declared a World Day for Audio Visual Heritage to raise awareness of the significance of Audio Visual documents and to draw attention to the need to protect them.

Every year, activities are organized by different institutions worldwide around a theme to drum up interest in the event. This year, the Coordinating Council for AV Archives Associations has adopted as theme “Fading Heritage: We Can Save It.”

AV documents, which are characteristic of the 20th and 21st centuries, have enormous and far-reaching influences in the everyday lives of people around the world. Yet, due to their fragility, much have been lost and continue to be lost.

Documentary heritage reflects the diversity of languages, peoples and cultures. It is the mirror of the world and its memory. But this memory is insubstantial. Every day, irreplaceable parts of this memory disappear for ever.

UNESCO has launched the Memory of the World Programme to guard against collective amnesia calling upon the preservation of the valuable archive holdings and library collections all over the world ensuring their wide dissemination.

The Memory of the World Register lists documentary heritage which has been identified by the International Advisory Committee in its meetings in Tashkent (September 1997), in Vienna (June 1999), in Cheongju City (June 2001), in Gdansk (August 2003), in Lijiang (June 2005), and in Pretoria (June 2007) and endorsed by the Director-General of UNESCO as corresponding to the selection criteria for world significance.

Included in the Registered Heritage is Radio Broadcast of the Philippine People Power Revolution, a documentary heritage by Philippines and recommended for inclusion in the Memory of the World Register in 2003.

The collection of sound recordings of 44 audiocassette tapes and 1 mini-disc document the actual, unedited day-to-day radio broadcast of Radio Veritas, (a Catholic -owned radio station at the outskirts of Manila), DZRJ/DZRB, Radio Bandido, (a privately-owned radio station in Quezon City then under the Ministry of National Defense), DZRH (a privately-owned radio station in Manila) and Voice of the Philippines, a government-owned radio station taken over by the people led by Radio Veritas on the 24th of February, 1986.

The People Power Revolution was a unique political event of the 20th century which stirred the world: the peaceful overthrow of an entrenched dictatorship through a spontaneous popular uprising, documented and influenced by the 20th century medium of radio.

The unbroken radio record over four days in 1986 is an unvarnished chronicle of a nation and its people at a critical time in its history. The world listened, watched and read. The event will forever be a reference point for the peaceful resolution of deep national crises.

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo has issued Executive Order No. 788 to promote the role of the youth in national service. The EO tackles the need to involve the youth aged 18 to 24 years in the national service program through the National Service Corps (NSC) and Youth Conservation Corps (YCC).
